、,Litz is a Finnish ,who married a Taiwan Chinese doctor . The misunderstanding between the mother-in-law and the daughter in law is very obvious .It is also very common in the this kind of family just like them. Litz talks to his husband about how long the mother-in-law will stay at their home. But
、when the mother-in-law heard it , it makes her very angry. She chooses to leave for Taiwan immediately. So the five of our teammates try to explain the reasons:,There are few misunderstandings in this chapter: First, as is well known that the Finns have strong sense of time. It is to say theyd like
、to make plans and be ready all the time .So it is reasonable for Litz to ask her mother-in-law such a question. However ,we Chinese are always humble and modest. I mean in Chinese culture were not willing to ask questions like this for fear of making other people embarrassed.,The second one is that
、Litzs mother-in-low misunderstands their talking. Because she is a Chinese woman, after hearing the talking, maybe she thinks that Litz doesnt welcome her coming. Then, she decides to go back home. She may think Litz the daughter in law is miserly and unfilial .,The most essential reason we think is
、 that Litz is a Finnish(芬兰人). As Finnishes belong to low-context culture, the mass of information is vested in the explicit code and they wants to get the information in a direct way. In this dialog, she just wants to get the information (how long her mother-in-low is going to stay) from her husband
、 and lets him ask his mother. Maybe she thinks it is a usual talking. However, her husband is a Chinese doctor who belongs to high-context culture and in this kind of culture, information is provided through gestures, even conveyed in an indirect way, so he thinks that Litz shouldnt ask such questio
、n.,Obvious just the different cultures work. In Litzs eye, she asked how long the mother in law will stay has nothing to do with disliking the mother staying here. She just wanted to know the accurate time and then she can do what she should do to look after his mother and nothing else. But in our C

The different cultures result in the misunderstanding.,As far as I am concerned, the possible cause of the misunderstanding is the different cult
、ure. Litz is a Finnish who comes from a low-context culture while her mother-in-law belongs to high-context culture. Litz just want to know when her mother-in-law will leave so that she may make some preparations in advance. She would like to input her meanings explicitly and directly.,The reason wh
、y this kind of misunderstanding occurs is that the different cultures make different characteristics. Therefore, when talking with each, we should not only understand each other in our own mode of thinking. But we should also be more considerate . Only by doing this can we communicating with each ot
、her more fluently.,However, in the Chinese culture, we prefer to give an implicit implication in order to let others understand themselves without causing embarrassment. Litzs words made her mother-in-law think that Litz doesnt welcome her and wants her leave soon. Thats why Litz failed in persuading her mother-in-law to change her mind.,Thank you!,
