5、ifficulties with the use of these approaches in humans, including finding an appropriate donor, continued elevated expression of the exogenous gene, high treatment costs, transplantation challenges, and a need for long-term efficacy evaluation. Mecobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 that contains coba
6、lt. It is an essential vitamin for nervous system functioning. It is often clinically used to promote the recovery of peripheral nerve function. However, the molecular mechanism by which mecobalamin promotes functional nerve recovery remains unclear. The team led by Lin Gan, Wuxi No. 2 Peoples Hospi
7、tal, China found that intraperitoneal administration of mecobalamin improved the functional recovery of the injured sciatic nerve, and increased the mRNA expression of growth associated protein 43 in nerve tissue ipsilateral to the injury, and of neurotrophic factors (nerve growth factor, brain-deri
8、ved nerve growth factor and ciliary neurotrophic factor) in the L46 dorsal root ganglia. An article published in Neural Regeneration Research (Vol. 9, No. 22, 2014) evaluated the promoting effect of mecobalamin on regeneration of injured mouse sciatic nerve and investigated the molecular mechanism u
9、nderlying the therapeutic effect of mecobalamin after sciatic nerve injury. In addition, this article also reported that mecobalamin thickened the myelin sheath in myelinated nerve fibers and increased the cross-sectional area of target muscle cells, which provide insights for the treatment of perip
