8、 another like example of pithy writing?注释：话说短文是冰心写于 1988 年 1 月的随笔。作者一针见血地指出“为写作而写作”的不正之风以及崇尚长文的时弊。(1)“也许是我的精、气、神都不足吧”也可译为 Perhaps due to deficiency in my mental and physical energy，但不如 Perhaps due to my failing energies 简洁。 “精、气、神”在文中显得俏皮，意即“精力” ，故译为 energies 即可。(2)“如”即比如说“，译为 say。英语中举例时常用 say 这个字，和
9、for 词 example 同义。(3)“为应付编辑朋友”的意思是“迁就编辑朋友之约或要求” ，故译为top humour ones editor-friends。英语 to humour 作 to gratify by compliance 解。(4)“也被冲洗到水份太多”意即“变得夸张空洞” ，故译为“become inflated。(5)“你心尖上”即“你的内心深处”或“你的心头” ，译为 your heart 即可，不宜按字面译为 the tip of your heart。(6)“我们伟大的祖国，是有写短文的文学传统的”也可译为 Our great motherland has a
10、literary tradition of short essays，但不如 Our motherland is known for its literary tradition of short essays 灵活顺口。(7)“有几篇是长的?”译为 Do you find anything unduely long，其中 unduely 是添加成分，作“不适当地”或“过分地”解，原文虽无其词而有其意。(8)“祭十二郎文 ”译为 An elegiac Address to My Nephew Shierlang，其中 My Nephew 是为交待“十二郎”何许人而添加的成分，有助于读者的理解，
11、属释义性译文。(9)“不也是一个实例吗?”译为 Isnt another like example of pithy writing?，其中 like 和 of pithy writing 均为添加成分，原文虽无其词而有其意。路畔的蔷薇郭沫若清晨往松林里去散步，我在林荫路畔发见了一束被遗弃了的蔷薇。蔷薇的花色还是鲜艳的，一朵紫红，一朵嫩红，一朵是病黄的象牙色中带着几分血晕(1)。我把蔷薇拾在手里了。青翠的叶上已经凝集着细密的露珠，这显然是昨夜被除人遗弃了的。这是可怜的少女受了薄幸的男子的欺绐?还是不幸的青年受了轻狂的的妇人的玩弄?昨晚上甜蜜的私语，今朝的冷清的露珠(2)我把蔷薇拿到家里来了，我

16、wn upon?注释：路畔的蔷薇是郭沫若(1892-1978)的早期小品，玲珑剔透，饶有诗意，堪称一首优美的散文诗。(1)“一朵是病黄的象牙色中带着几分血晕”译为 a sickly ivory-yellow slightly tinged with blood-red，其中 sickly 作“病态的”解。又，ivory-yellow 和 blood-red 的结构都是“实物颜色词+基本颜色词” ，为英语颜色词的常见形式。(2)“昨晚上甜蜜的私语，今朝的冷清的露珠”译为 Last nights whispers of love; this mornings drops of cold dew，两
