HandoutsImportant points: The class will be conducted mostly in English with the belief that the more English input the students have the better their English will be. The students are also encouraged to think in English and express
3、 themselves in English as much as possible. Monolingual English-English dictionaries such as Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners of American English, Collins Cobuild English Language Dictionary are recommended. There will be a short quiz approximately every two weeks. The lowest grade
4、 will be thrown out. There are no make-up quizzes. Quizzes will be given at the beginning of class and will be announced beforehand. Absences: Complete attendance is expected of each student. Coming to class late two times is the same as one absence. The students are supposed to finish the assigned
5、reading before coming to class. Questions will be asked to check students reading comprehension. Emphasis will be placed on reading strategies such as prediction, guessing meaning from context, skimming, scanning, identifying main idea etc. Written assignments must be legibly written. Each assignmen
6、t must have a clear heading at the top of the page stating: your name, your student number, class, assignment number, and date.
