8、)alone 作形容词意为“单独的,独自的”,一般只作表语,不作定语,作副词,意为“独自地,单独地”(2)lonely 意为“寂寞的,孤独的”,指一种心态,指因缺少朋友、同情、友谊时所产生的一种悲伤的和忧郁的感情,还可修饰地点,意为“荒凉的,偏僻的”,而 alone 仅指没有别的人。比较:(1)He cant finish the work alone.(2)He doesnt feel lonely when he is alone.中考直击( ) In some foreign countries, such as Canada, children usually leave their

11、但我不会游泳。He could draw pictures when he was young. 他年轻时会画画。A. can 的用法(1)表示能力:“会”,“能”。如:He can drive, but he cant ride a bicycle.他会开车,但他不会骑自行车。(2)表示客观可能性。如:Tom can alse get lost near his home.汤姆在他家附近也可能会迷路。You can see a parrot show in Beijing Zoo.在北京动物园你会看到鹦鹉表演。(3)表示“建议”或“请求”。可用 Can I.?或 Can you.?等结构,语

12、气比较客气。如:Can I help you?要我帮忙吗?Can you lend me you pen?你能将你的钢笔借我用一下吗?(4)表示“允许”或“请求允许”。其意思相当于 may (可以)。但 can 比 may 用得更广泛。can 不仅表示说话人同意、允许,还可以表示客观条件的许可。may 通常表示说话人的许可。如:Class is over. You can go home now.下课了,现在你们可以回家了。Its very hot outside. Can I open thewindow? 下课了,现在你们可以回家了。(5)表示惊异,怀疑,不相信等态度(主要用于否定句和疑问

13、句),即 cant 表“不可能”之意。如:He is a very good boy. He cant do that thing.他是一个很好的孩子,他不可能做那件事。Can he be late for class?他会上课迟到吗?B. could 的用法(1)could 是 can 的过去式,表示与过去有关的“能力”,“可能”;还可表示“惊异,怀疑或不相信的态度”(用于否定句和疑问句)。如:No one could do it last year.去年还没人能做那件事。(2)用于现在时和将来时,代替 can,表示更为客气,委婉地提出请求或陈述看法,有时则表示可能性不大。如:Could y

14、ou give me your mobile number?你可以把你手机号码给我吗?It could snow this evening.今晚可能会下雪。(但可能性不大)C、表示“允许”的 can, could, may, might(1)当请求允许做某事时,can 最常用;在没有把握能否得到允许或为表现得更客气一些时,可用 could;而 may 和 might 则多用于正式文体或第一人称。如: Could I use your pencil?我可以用你的铅笔吗?May I ask you a question?我可以问你一个问题吗?(2)当表示允许做某人做某事时,要用 can 或 may

15、,不能用 could 和 might。如:-Could I borrow your car?我能借用你的汽车吗?-Yes, of course you an.当然可以。(二)may 与 might(1)may 表示允许或征询对方的许可,有“可以”之意;may not 表示说话人“不许可”。(2)在回答 may 引导的疑问句时,肯定回答用 Yes, you may. 否定用 No, you mustnt. No, you cant.或 No, you had better not.在表示“不可以”,“禁止”,“阻止”等意思时,常用 must not (mustnt)代替 may now.(3)m
