With the knowledge of some lexical features about news reports at their disposal, this intractable problem will be considerably eased or re

31、adily resolved. News language is concise and clear. It prefers simple and short words to fancy ones. Although reporters have some big words at hand, they usually choose to write their reports with small words. By doing so they can make their voices heard and understood by more people. In the followi

32、ng pairs of examples, the word to the left is a small word while the word to the right is a big one.,e.g. helpassistance tryattemptcarvehicle easefacilitatehomeresidence enoughsufficient For the same concept or idea, news reports may have different word choices from those used on other occasions. 33、r example, monosyllables are preferred in news reports. There are about 1,500 frequently used words or expressions for news reports.
