、Unit 7,Text A,Before Reading,Reading,After Reading,Vocabulary Practice,Enjoy English,Before Reading,Discuss the following questions in class.,What kind of information do you usually get from the Internet? 2. What would happen to our daily lives if all computers stopped working for one hour?,In 1949,

、 a group of scientists were testing an early computer in a laboratory in the United States. It was a huge machine, built by experts for thousands of dollars. But it would not work. One of the scientists opened the front of the computer and went in to investigate. He came out with a large insect whic

、h had become trapped in the machine. From that day on, any fault that stops a computer from working properly has been known as a “bug”.,Chinese,Reading,Can You Speak Technology in a Wired World?,2. The original bug is still preserved in a glass case. The word has now passed into the English language

、 along with thousands of others from the world of computing. It is sometimes called “tech-speak”, a large vocabulary of words invented in laboratories and now used across the English speaking world by everyone who switches on a computer. 3. “Tech-speak” probably started in California, the place wher

、e most of the early work on computing was done. Perhaps the fact that we “surf” the Internet is evidence of a California connection. Here are a few more examples of “tech-speak”.,Chinese,Reading,4. With personal computers now widespread, there is increasing concern about the activities of “hackers”,

So it is no surprise that technological language has become an increasingly important part of English. From be

、ing the vocabulary used by computer experts, the language of technology has moved to become an important part of real life.,Chinese,Reading,Para.

Reading,From that day on, any fault that stops a computer from working properly has been known as a “bug”. 从那天起,任何一个使电脑无法正常运转的毛病都被称为“虫子”。,Reading, stop . from doing something 意为“阻止做某事”,相当于prevent/keep . from doing something。 如: Her sudden arrival stopped him

、 from going out. 她的突然到来使他不能外出。,It is sometimes called “tech-speak”, a large vocabulary of words invented in laboratories and now used across the English speaking world by everyone who switches on a computer. 它有时候被称作“技术用语”,即一大批产生于实验室的词语,现在已被讲英语国家中所有用电脑的人广泛使用。,Reading,这是一个长句。从a large vocabulary 一直到句尾都

、是 “tech-speak” 的同位语,补充说明什么是“tech-speak”,在同位语中又包含分别由invented 和used 引导的定语短语,以及由who 引导的定语从句。,With personal computers now widespread, there is increasing concern about the activities of “hackers” 现在随着个人电脑的普及,“电脑黑客”的行为日益受到关注,Reading, with personal computers now widespread 是一个复合结构,由“介词 with + 名词 + 形容词” 构成,

、表示伴随状况或原因。 如:I went out with the window open. 我外出时窗户开着。 再如:Dont speak with your mouth full. 吃东西时别说话。,Hackers are also responsible for the spread of “viruses”, 电脑黑客也对“病毒”的传播负责,,Reading,be responsible for 意为“对负责”。 如:We are responsible for our own actions. 我们对自己的行动负责。,Reading,After making a statement,

、they will add :-) to show that something makes them happy. 在写完一句话后,他们会加上一个:-)(笑脸)来表示某事让他们感到高兴。,after 后的短语making a statement 相当于一个时间状语从句after they make a statement, 此时由于从句与主句的主语一致,为避免重复,从句中就省略主语,这样整个句子就显得较为简洁。如:After making a closing speech, he came back to his seat and sat down. 致完闭幕词后,他回到座位上坐了下来。,A
