1、Dear Parent/CarerWelcome to Year 3! We hope this letter will provide you with a taster of whats in store for the term ahead.We continue to teach using a cross curricular approach. This involves teaching many subject areas through an over arching topic. We find that children become more involved in t
2、heir learning this way and are enthusiastic about the topic rather than dotting from subject to subject.This first half-terms topic is on Robots. The children will be using their Science skills to find out about magnets and springs and will be applying these skills to the world of robots. The childr
3、en will be using their knowledge in literacy for writing adventure stories all about robots. Perhaps you could read some adventure stories at home to help get into this genre. In PE the children will be creating a robot dance and in DT will be making Moving Monsters using their technology skills. In
4、 ICT we will be looking at programming and controlling a range of robots and devices. Music will be based on rhythmic patterns and composition. An additional topic we will looking at will be the Hindu festival of light Divali, where we will be carrying out different activities surrounding this theme
5、 and religion. This will include instruction writing, making diva lamps and creating yoga poses. In the second half term we will be learning about the environment. The children will be using Science skills to investigate the best conditions for plant growth and applying their Geography skills to inv
6、estigate the local area. In Literacy the children will be developing their descriptive writing skills and also writing poems. We will end the term by focusing on the Christmas story. Each term the children will cover a wide range of maths topics. Children focus on understanding place value, addition
7、, subtraction, multiplication and division, shape and space, and handling data. Telling the time and knowing and applying their tables facts will also be covered. Homework Children are expected to be reading regularly at home. Selected children will possibly be bringing specific books home tailored
8、to their needs but most will be having free choice of book at an appropriate level. All children will be issued with a reading record card, please feel free to make any comments for your class teacher on this card. Talk homework will be issued every week. Maths talk homework will involve the childre
9、n talking about their learning/playing a game with an adult and is not intended to be an independent task. This will inform you of the Maths your child has been working on. Literacy talk homework is for the children to discuss a forthcoming writing task a written outcome is not required. Literacy/Ma
10、ths Talk Homework will then alternate each week. The children will be issued with a book for sticking their talk homework in, for safe keeping. Please remember to bring this book with you in your book bag each day. Each half term children will be given a home learning task that will involve some cho
11、ice but will be linked to the themes being taught at school. A separate letter will be sent home explaining each task. Times tables and other mental maths skills need to be practised as often as possible. This will really help your childs learning and ability to apply these in their maths sessions.Y
