This is just a kind of monsters of a myths or a legend. The teacher can let the students talk about the pictures. Teacher offers som

5、e help.T: All of us must have been told a lot of these monsters when you were young. We must also learn a lot from all kinds of books or magazines. Today Ill take you to the Chengbai Mountains to watch the monster, the Monster of Lake Tianchi. Do you know where the Tianchi is?S: It is in Jilin Provi

6、nce.T: How much do you know something about Jinlin?The teacher should prepare a map of China on the screen. Let the students talk about the location of Jilin.S: Jilin Province is situated in the central section of Chinas northeast region. It is bordered by Heilongjiang on the north, Liaoniang to the

7、 south, Inner Mongolia on the west and North Korea on the east. This location gives Jilin Province its favorable temperate climate, which includes a lengthy winter with snow that can start as early as October and last until April. Despite the winter cold, people flock to this area for the Ice Lanter

8、n Festival and the winter sports. Jilin is known as an area for winter sports and has produced some of the best ski resorts in China. However, Jilin has many other natural and historical attractions to entertain its residents and visitors.T: Who can tell us anything else about Jilin? What to see?S:

9、Changbaishan (Tall White Mountain) includes several highlights that will delight any visitor. There is the mountain itself, which is a nature preserve that has tigers, deer, black bears, leopards(豹), and sable(貂) among the more than 200 varieties of wildlife that live in its original, undisturbed fo

10、rests. Within the forests are innumerable hot springs and a more than 1,500 species of plants. Rare birds, such as the flying Dragon Bird, also make their home in this mountain forest. The mountain also includes a spectacular waterfall which is the source of the Song Hua River. The western side of t

11、he mountain range has three lakes: Songhua, Tai Lake, and Dongting Lake, as well as Chinas largest ice-skating training facility. T: Wonderful. But today we must climb up to the very top of the mountain. Why? Because Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) is just at the very top. The view is nothing short of mirac

12、ulous and perhaps, as a reward for climbing up this volcanic cone, you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the lakes very own resident “monster.” Now please turn to Page 52. Lets read the passage The Monster of Lake Tianchi. Five minutes later you should tell me what the monster of Lake Tian

13、chi is like. OK?Step II ReadingTeacher gives students five minutes to read the passage. Then ask Wh- questions to find out various kinds of specific information about the monster.Five minutes later.T: Are you ready? S: Yes. This passage must come from a newspaper because it is back in the news after several recent sightings

17、.2. It is in the very top of the Changbai Mountains in Jilin province, northeast China.3. The persons mentioned in Paragraph 1 are Meng Fanying and Xue Junlin. The former is the director of a local tourist office. The later is a local photographer. The persons mentioned in Paragraph 2 are a group of

18、 soldiers, who were walking along the side of the lake. Another one is Li Xiaohe, who was visiting the lake with his family.4. Mr Li Xiaohe said that he and his family were able to see the monster clearly because the weather was fine and the lake was calm. But in my opinion, the soldiers saw it more

19、 clearly because one of them said “It was greenish-black and a round head with 10-centimetre horns.” It seemed to be more accurate. I believe in the soldier.5. The article reports three sightings of the monster.6. The soldiers description was the most detailed. “It was greenish-black and a round hea

20、d with 10-centimetre horns.”7. There have been reports of monsters in Lake Tianchi since the beginning of the last century, although no one has seen one close up.8. Many people think the monster may be a distant cousin of the Loch Ness monster in Scotland. They also think that there might be similar

21、 creatures in other lakes around the world.9. However the scientists are sceptical about the monster of Lake Tianchi. They say that the low-temperature lake is unlikely to be able to support such large living creatures. It was not long before the Lake Tianchi was formed about three hundred years.10.

22、 Lake Tianchi is the highest volcanic lake in the world. It is 2189 metres high and covers an area of about ten square kilometers.
