The setup wizard installs the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment, and the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard performs the Wi
18、ndows Vista readiness assessment. Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Setup Wizard. This wizard guides you through the process of installing the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment, including the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, which is a required component of installation. Wi
19、ndows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard. This wizard helps you inventory the computers on a network and assess their readiness for Windows Vista. It stores the collected information in a database and generates reports to help you understand and use the results. The documents generated by the Windows
20、Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard include the following: A Microsoft Excel workbook (report) that contains spreadsheets providing the detailed results of the inventory and assessment. A Microsoft Word document (summary) that summarizes the results of the inventory and assessment, including which comp
21、uters are ready for Windows Vista and which computers do not meet minimum hardware requirements for Windows Vista but can be upgraded. The document describes assessment data only for computers that already run a Microsoft Windows client operating system.You can use these documents as the starting po
22、int for planning the migration of client computers to Windows Vista. As a rule, the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment will recommend upgrades for individual hardware devices that do not meet the minimum requirements for Windows Vista, but it does not recommend upgrades to the CPU. The Excel workbook
23、 will also provide detailed information about the availability of Windows Vista device drivers for each device found on the assessed computers.Note The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard is designed to have the smallest possible impact on network performance and the performance of the computer
24、s being assessed. You do not need to deploy any agents to perform the assessment. The wizard uses technologies already existing in Windows computers. The network impact during assessment is negligible. The computers being inventoried will show a rise in CPU utilization of up to fifteen percent for f

Use the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit Version (ACT) 5.0 to find out whether applications are compatible with Windows Vista. ACT 5.0
31、can be used to centrally gather data, assess, and report Windows Vista software compatibility. 37、se required to do a readiness assessment. This includes: Installation of the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment. Installation of SQL Server 2005 Express, which is required to store the inventory and assessment data. To ensure that SQL Server 2005 Express is available, the wizard does the following: T
38、he Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Setup Wizard automatically downloads the required installation files and installs SQL Server 2005 Express. If the SQL Server 2005 Express installation files have been previously downloaded, you need to specify the location of the downloaded files so the wizard ca
39、n use those installation files to install SQL Server 2005 Express.Note The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment creates a non-default instance of SQL Server 2005 Express. If the setup wizard is run on a computer already running another instance of SQL Server 2005 Express then that instance is not affec
40、ted by the installation of the additional instance required by the solution. If you want to uninstall, you can run the setup wizard again, and it will provide you with options to uninstall the application, the SQL Server 2005 instance, and any reports that you have created. Uninstalling the applicat
41、ion can also be completed through the Add/Remove Programs icon (in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003) or Programs and Features icon (in Windows Vista) in the Control Panel. If you choose this option you will need to uninstall the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment and SQL Server
42、2005 Express separately.After installation is complete, the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard is available from the Start menu. Running the wizard is easy, and it prov

45、re Assessment Wizard is able to centrally inventory and scan computers on the network that are running any of the following operating systems:Getting Started Guide 7 Windows Vista (already migrated) Windows XP Professional Windows XP Professional SP2 Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2. 46、ndows 2000 Professional or Windows 2000 ServerNote User names and passwords entered into the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard are never stored on a hard disk. They are encrypted in system memory while the inventory and assessment is being performed. Every time the wizard is run, you will nee
47、d to reenter the inventory credentials.The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Wizard will give you the option to find computers using Active Directory Domain Services or the Computer Browser service. Once found, the computers are inventoried using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). Use the fol
48、lowing recommendations to determine the options to choose when running the wizard: If you have Active Directory, select the option to find computers using Active Directory Domain Services. The wizard cannot be constrained to scanning specific Active Directory organizational units (OU). It will scan
49、all computers in all OUs in the domain specified. On the Active Directory Inventory wizard page, you can specify that information is to be collected from all related domains in the same forest. If you want to find computers in the entire Active Directory forest, select this checkbox. If you are scanning an environment with multiple forests then you will need to run the wizard again and on the Active Directory Inventory wizard page provide credentials for a domain in that forest. If you select the same i
