11、 in extensive reading: skimming 15 minsTeaching Method: Students have 5 minutes to read through the passage about a reading skillskimming, and when reading, they should underline some important sentences which are useful for them to understand how to use skimming efficiently. After reading, the teac
12、her asks several students to tell us what sentences have been underlined, and use their own words to summarize how to skim. Skimming is reading for the general idea. While skimming, a reader reads the text very quickly to find the main ideas or important facts. The attention should be focused on a g
13、eneral overview, and look for only the topic, the main idea, or the main points. Skimmers usually read selectively. Six steps are proposed as regard to how to skim: a. read the title; b. note the authors name and the source of the text; c. read the first paragraph completely; d. read subheadings and
14、 first sentences of the remaining paragraphs; e. look for the main ideas and important supporting details, clue words, direction words, and attention-getting markings; f. read the last paragraph completely.Teaching Purpose: Students know how to use skimming efficiently. 2) Warm-up activities for the
