12、d all children were safe and sound. 原 来 八 枚 铜 钱 是 八 仙 变 的 ， 暗 中 来 保 护 孩 子 的 。 因 为 “ 祟 ” 与 “ 岁 ” 谐 音 ， 之 后 逐 渐 演 变 为 “ 压岁 钱 ” (because 祟 and 岁 are of the same tone, from then on we had Gift Money) 。 到 了 明 清 ， “ 以彩 绳穿钱编为龙形，谓之压岁钱。尊长之赐小儿者， 亦 谓 压 岁 钱 ” 。所以一些地方把给孩子压岁钱叫 串 钱 。 到 了 近 代 则 演 变 为 红 纸 包 一 百 文 铜 钱 赐 给 晚 辈 ， 寓 意 “ 长命百岁 ” 。 对 已 成 年 的 晚 辈 红 纸 包 里 则 放 一 枚 银 元，寓意 “ 一 本 万 利 。 货 币 改 为 纸 币 后 ， 长 辈 们 喜 欢 到 银 行 兑 换 票 面 号 码 相 连 的 新 钞 票 给 孩 子 ， 祝 愿 孩 子 “ 连 连 高 升 ” 。
