They have gathered in Rome for the first Green Standards Week conference.Italys Ministry of Economic Development and the International Telecommunications(电信学) Union organized the conference. The event calls attention to the need for informa
6、tion and communication technologies to fight climate change and to build greener, more environmentally-friendly(环境友好的) economies.In recent years, the world has changed because so many people now use computers, mobile phones and other kinds of electronic devices(电子设备).But the increasing use of inform
7、ation and communication technologies, also known as ICTs, also has led to more pollution, especially greenhouse gas emissions.(温室气体的排放) This is mostly because of the energy used to manufacture, transport and operate such equipment. Still, many experts say ICTs offer the best chance for reducing gree
8、nhouse gases.The Global Information Society Watch reported last year that ICTs could help to cut total production of greenhouse gases by as much as fifteen percent by twenty twenty.Alan Finlay is with the Association for Progressive Communications. He also helped to prepare the GIS Watch report. He
9、says the effect of using ICTs to build cleaner environments is far more powerful than their harmful effects.ALAN FINLAY: “When youre look at greening with ITs, youre looking at the impact of ICTs on the environment but also what ICTs can be used in order to improve the impact of other industries on
10、the environment. And I think the overwhelming consensus is that you cant throw the baby out with the bath water. And ICTs can do more good in a sort of macro context.“Mr. Finlay says the GISWatch report and events like the ITUs Green Standards Week are meant to look at the ICT industry as a whole.(总

Gardening experts say tulips(郁金香), daffodils(水仙花) and other bulbs are not very difficult to grow.Bulbs do well
20、in climates with a cold season. They are placed in the ground about the time of the first frost(初霜). But, with the right preparation, they can also grow well in places where the ground never freezes.Mike Lizotte of American Meadows, an online store, says before you start, you need know whether to pl

If you live in a cold area, a tender bulb will need special care when the growing season is over.MIKE LIZOTTE: “If you want that bulb to survive or come back, you would need to literally dig it out of the ground and bring it inside to a warm area because it just
