、zotrv,I126. Winding the film and cocking the shuttero lf the number “1“ is showing in the exposure counter, the shutterblades will open and close when you press in the top or the frontshutter release. To advance the film and cock the shutter for thenext shot, just wind the film advance lever two tim
、es.o The first stroke will cock the shutter and advance the film partially;the second stroke will complete advancing the film. The windingangle of the film advance lever will therefore differ on the secondstroke with the amount of unexoosed film left.Note:To test if the shutter operates or not, open
、 the camera back. Youcannot press down the shutter release with the camera backclosed.(Shooting with the camera held vertically) (Fig. 18)lf you are shooting with the camera held vertically, use the frontshutter release. lt will let you hold the camera steadier.(Using a tripod) (Fig. 19)lf you are s
、hooting indoors or nighttime pictures with a shutterspeed of 1/30-second or slower, use a tripod and a cable release.(Time exposure)To take long-exposure pictures, set the shutter speed selector to “T“(Time) and press in the shutter release. The shutter will remain openeven if you take your finger o
、ff the shutter release. To trip the shutter, just turn the shutter speed selectorback toward“1“.o On time exposure, it is also possible to trip the shutter byoperating the film advance lever, but the film will advance andmove your picture out of position in this case.To trip the shutter on time expos
、ure, always turn the shutterspeed selector. Do not operate the film advance lever.7. Unloading the filmo After you complete exposing a roll of film, wind it up to the veryend with the film advance lever. A sudden release of tension willtell you that the trailing end has left its spool and that windi
、ng hasbeen completed. To wind the film completely, it will take aboutthree strokes after the release of tension.Next, open the camera back, take out the exposed roll of film andseal the end to prevent the roll frorn unwinding. (Fig. 20)o The empty spool is transferred to the take-up side for taking
、upthe next roll of film.8. Taking flash pictureso lf you are using a small-size clip-on flash, clip it into the accessoryshoe on the camera top. (Fig. 21)o To use the sync socket, turn the sync socket cover with yourfinger in the direction of the arrow, then plug the cord into thesocket. (Fig. 22, 2
、31o The 65 mm lens of the GSW690lll has a covering power of 760 oreouivalent to that of a 28 mm lens on a 35 mm camera. Thismeans that a flash with a small covering angle will not provideenough light along the picture edges. Be sure to use a flash witha covering angle that is wide enough for a 28 mm
、 lens on a 35mm camera.o Your camera has an X-contact, that is, electronic flashes willsynchronize with all shutter speeds.o lf you are using a flash bulb, use an M-class bulb with a shutterspeed of 1l3O-second or slower. lf the shutter soeed is1/60-second or faster, the flash will discharge but it
、will notsynchronize properly and a large part of the light will be lost.CAMERA CARE AND MAINTENANCEIt is assumed that most of you who oWn a Fuji GW69Oil, GSW69OIIIor GW670ltl are professional photographers who will put the camerato hard use and who cannot afford to develop camera trouble in themiddl
、e of a job.It is therefore hoped that the following instructions and recommen-dations will be studiously heeded.1. Using the shutter actuation counterYour camera is provided with a 3-digit shutter actuation counter inthe bottom which will tell you how many times the shutter has beenused so that youl
、l know when the camera needs maintenance. It counts 10 shutter actuations as 1;that is, if it shows 150, theshutter has been actuated 1,500 times. After reaching 999 (9,990shots) it will return to 000 with 10 more shots. (Fig. 24)(Overhauling)Your camera is a precision instrument and it is subject to
、 fair wearand tear. The heart of your camera is the shutter. lt is intricatelyconstructed, precision-assembled, more delicate and less enduringin consistency than the other parts, and shutter trouble can beruinous to your photographs. lt is therefore recommended as followson the strength of thorough
、 factory tests.(1) ShutterNormally, interlens shutters perform perfectly up to about 5,000shots, after which they become less accurate and may startbehaving erratically. After 10,000 shots, the shutter blades will nolonger open or close, which means they have reached their endur-ance limit. Be sure
、to have your shutter overhauled as soon as it hasbeen actuated 5,000 times; that is, when the counter reaches 500.(2) Film advance unit and othersThe film advance unit is much more durable than the shutter. To beon the safe srde, however, you should have it overhauled togetherwith the other mechanis
、ms as soon as the shutter has beenactuated 10,000 times (when the counter returns to 000 from 999).Note:It would be wise to have your camera overhauled sooner if you takea lot of pictures near the ocean or under other adverse conditions.2. Ghecking the camera before shootingBefore loading film in th
、e camera, make it a habit to perform thefollowing checks.(1) Film advance unitOpen the camera back and, while watching the take-up spool, windthe film advance lever to make sure the film advance unit is workingsmoothly.(2) Camera back interiorOpen the camera back and turn the four rollers (two on th
、e cameraback and two on the camera body) to make sure they are workingproperly. Also, check the film pressure springs in the film take-upand supply chambers to make sure they are attached properly andcan exert sufficient pressure on the film.(3) RangefinderWhile watching the double-image focusing sp
、ot in the viewfinder, focus the lens at infinity and at nearest focusing distance to makesure the focusing ring is operating properly. lf you can open thecamera back and check the focusing image on the film plane with asheet of ground glass and the milky-white TAC film that comes withyour camera, all
、 the better. The ground glass and TAC film shouldbe placed on the inner focal-plane rails, not on the outer andelevated film guide rails.(4) ShutterCheck the various shutter speeds through the camera back. Youcan more or less tell whether the shutter is operating at the rightspeed or not by the amou
、nt of light it passes through and by thesound it makes.I2JozUJmzotrU-14(5) ApertureOpen the camera back and turn the aperture ring to make sure theaperture blades open and close smoothly.(6) Flash synchronizationClip on the flash, open the camera back, open up the aperture fully, set the shutter spee
、d selector to the speed you want, then press inthe shutter release. lf light comes in through the lens, flash andshutter speed are correctly synchronized.(lmportant)Camera trouble can cost you dearly both materially and otherwise.Always check your camera before use and have it overhauledperiodically
、 so that you can be sure of yourself at all times.3. Cleaning the lensAs mentioned earlier, scratches on the lens surface can reduce itssharpness far more than you would think. lf the contrast of yourpicture seems somehow insufficient and it doesnt look crisp enough, the cause is usually scratches on
、 the lens surface.(How to clean)(1)First, blow off dust from the lens surface completely with an airblower.(2) Next, moisten a sheet of lens cleaning paper with plenty of Fujilens cleaning fluid and wipe the lens gently with it in a circularmotion. Always start from the center then gradually move ou
、t tothe edges.(3) Finally, after all contaminants have been removed, wipe off theremaining lens cleaning fluid with a dry sheet of lens cleaningpaper. Again, start from the center in a circular motion then moveout to the edges.Caution:Breathing a mist on the lens surface then wiping it off with sili
、concloth or other similar material is the worst thing you can do. Neverdo it because this is one of the main causes of scratches on cameralenses.4. Precautionso Always load and unload film in subdued light.o In hot weather, do not leave your camera in a closed car or inmoist places except temporaril
、y for a very short time.o Always clean your camera before and after taking pictures. Cleanthe interior with an air blower, and wipe off the exterior withsilicon cloth.o Put your camera away where it is cool dry, and free of dust. Anddont forget to put the lens cap on.o lf there is soil or dust in the film chamber, the film may bescratched. Be sure to clean the camera interior from time to time.II
