Gates, Sr., was a prominent lawyer. His mother, Mary Maxwell Gates, was served on the board of directors for First Interstate Ban
2、c System and the United Way. He has one elder sister, Kristi, and one younger sister, Libby. He was the fourth of his name in his family, but was known as William Gates III or “Trey”, because his father had dropped his own III suffix. He enjoys playing bridge, tennis, and golf, and also known as an
3、avid reader. He is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author, and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. He is consistently ranked among the worlds wealthiest people and was the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2009, excluding 2008, when he was ranked third
4、. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect and remains the largest individual shareholder, with more than 8 percent of the common stock. He has also authored or co-authored several books, which are famous among the world. Gates is one of the best-k
5、nown entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution. Gates stepped down as chief executive officer of Microsoft in January 2000. He remained as chairman and created the position of chief software architect. In the later stages of his career, Gates has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors,
6、donating large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill its successor is faster by only one percent. His solution was later formalized in a published paper in collaboration .Gates did not have a definite study plan while a student at Harv
7、ard and spent a lot of time using the schools computers. He remained in contact with Paul Allen, joining him at Honeywell during the summer of 1974. The following year saw the release of the MITS Altair 8800 based on the Intel 8080 CPU, and Gates and Allen saw this as the opportunity to start their
8、own computer software company. He had talked this decision over with his parents, who were supportive of him after seeing how much Gates wanted to start a company. Then, he is on the ambitious way. After reading the January 1975 issue of Popular Electronics that demonstrated the Altair 8800, Gates c
9、ontacted Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems, (MITS), the creators of the new microcomputer, to inform them that he and others were working on a BASIC interpreter for the platform. In reality, Gates and Allen did not have an Altair and had not written code for it; they merely wanted to gauge
10、 MITS s interest. MITS president Ed Roberts agreed to meet them for a demo, and over the course of a few weeks they developed an Altair emulator that ran on a minicomputer, and then the BASIC interpreter. The demonstration, held at MITS s offices in Albuquerque, was a success and resulted in a deal
11、with MITS to distribute the interpreter as Altair BASIC. Paul Allen was hired into MITS,and Gates took a leave of absence from Harvard to work with Allen at MITS in Albuquerque in November 1975. They named their partnership “Micro-Soft“ and had their first office located in Albuquerque. Within a yea
12、r, the hyphen was dropped, and on November 26, 1976, the trade name “Microsoft“ was registered with the Office of the Secretary of the State of New Mexico. Gates never returned to Harvard to complete his studies.Microsofts BASIC was popular with computer hobbyists, but Gates discovered that a pre-ma
13、rket copy had leaked into the community and was being widely copied and distributed. In February 1976, Gates wrote an Open Letter to Hobbyists in the MITS newsletter saying that MITS could not continue to produce, distribute, and maintain high-quality software without payment. This letter was unpopu
14、lar with many computer hobbyists, but Gates persisted in his belief that software developers should be able to demand payment. Microsoft became independent of MITS in late 1976, and it continued to develop programming language software for various systems. During Microsofts early years, all employee
15、s had broad responsibility for the companys business. Gates oversaw the business details, but continued to write code as well. In the first five years, he personally reviewed every line of code the company shipped, and often rewrote parts of it as he saw fit. Gates oversaw Microsofts company restruc
16、turing on June 25, 1981, which re-incorporated the company in Washington state and made Gates President of Microsoft and the Chairman of the Board. In 1990, Microsoft posted off WINDOWS 3.0. In 1995, it posted off WINDOWS 95, which was considered as a very important soft to avoid the troubles which
17、DOS brought and make the PC easier and more useful. In the same year, he came out a book named THE ROAD AHEAD, which was a big success and many predicts in this book have been true. In 1999, Microsoft posted off Windows 98. In 1999, Gates wrote a famous book Business the Speed of Thought. In 2000, G
18、ates named his good friend Steve Ballmer as CEO of Microsoft, and Chief Software Architect of his own. In 2001, Microsoft posted off Windows XP, and Gates came to Times Square to sell XP by himself. In June 2006, Gates announced that he would be transitioning from full-time work at Microsoft to part
19、-time work, and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. And he did it. Now, Gates is busy in his philanthropy in the world. In 2000, Gates and his wife combined three family foundations into one to create the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is the largest transparent
20、ly operated charitable foundation in the world. 3. My CommentIn my opinion, I think there are three reasons for his big success.First, it should be owned to his family. As much as I know, Gates has a very good upbringing. His grandmother, a very kind lady, is very sensible to teach his little Bill.
21、She often plays games which can improve childrens intelligence with Gates. And she always encourages little Gates on his every progress. This makes Gates full of confidence. And the stories which told by his grandmother make Gates broaden his minds and had a wide interest of the world. She often enc
22、ourages Gates to read more books, thats why Gates has a big desire to read books and build a library in his home latter. Although his parents want him to be a lawyer at first, they dont force Gates to do this and just let him to learn what he wants to learn, even he dont get a good score on some cou
23、rses, they believe he can make it and never blame him. When Gates want to quit his studies in Harvard, his parents choose to support him because they know their son.Second, I think his friends and the atmosphere in America helped him. We all know that America is a very open-minded country, people ar

So, the valuable computers provided by school is a great help for him to practice his ability and put up some new ideas and make up some new programs. Also, his friend Paul who has the same dream with him is

Their cooperation is a big success.Thirdly, and the most important is his own sight of the world and the big talent on computer BASIC and also, his strive and warmhearted about the poor. He often works a whole night at that time. After he established Microsoft, he worked harder. Some of his colleagues said th

What he dose maybe just a part, but that is really meaningful.
