1、Happy Thanksgiving Day,教师:申玉莲,It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in the month of November. It has a very interesting history. 感恩节(英语:Thanksgiving Day)是美国和加拿大共有的节日,原意是为了感谢上天赐予的好收成。在美国,自1941年起,感恩节是在每年11月的第四个星期四,并从这一天起将休假两天;而加拿大与美国的感恩节时间不同,10月第二个星期一。像中国的春节一样,在这一天,成千上万的人们不管多忙,都要和自己的家人团聚。

2、加拿大的感恩节则起始于1879年,是在每年10月第二个星期一,与美国的哥伦布日相同。11月的第四个星期四是感恩节。感恩节是美国人民独创的一个古老节日,也是美国人合家欢聚的节日,因此美国人提起感恩节总是备感亲切。感恩节是美国国定假日中最地道、最美国式的节日(holiday),它和早期美国历史最为密切相关1。 1620年,一些朝拜者乘坐“五月花”号船去美洲寻求宗教自由。他们在海上颠簸了两个月之后,终于在酷寒的十一月里,在现在的马莎塞州的普里茅斯登陆。 在第一个冬天,半数以上的移民都死于(die)饥饿和传染病,活下来的人们在第一个春季即1621年开始播种。整个夏天(summer)他们都热切地盼望着丰

7、ated with communal prayers in church and in homes. People offer various meal time prayers during the day. It is a time, when mankind thanks God for all his blessings and grace. It is also a day to show gratitude to your friends and relatives for all the good deeds. Custom of Family Dinner Everyone f

8、ollows the custom of family dinner and reunion religiously every year. Distances dont really matter as relatives drive down to be with their family. Feasts are usually held at home. It is a time to enjoy their favorite Roasted Turkey with the family. Custom of Decoration Thanksgiving is a time to de

9、corate homes with wreaths, fresh and dried flowers. People beautify their homes, give the interiors a whole new look and feel. They light lamps to brighten the environment. Tables are adorned with best china and antique silver cutlery to mark the occasion. Custom of sending messages Thanksgiving is

10、a day when people send loving messages and warm wishes to their relatives, colleagues at work place, superiors and subordinates, near and dear ones. 15、hat turkey was eaten during the first Thanksgiving dinner, but the thanksgiving celebration will be incomplete without it. Parades The traditional Thanksgiving parade probably started with President Lincoln proclaiming it an official day. The full- dress parade is a way to display the countrys milit

16、ary strength and discipline. The main aim of such parades is to lift the spirits of the spectators, provide them with wholesome entertainment. In the present day, parades are accompanied with musical shows and celebrities. Football Games Watching NFL football during Thanksgiving is a popular traditi

17、on. The traditional game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers continues. 19、跑步、摔跤等体育竞赛,夜晚还围着篝火尽情歌舞,共享欢乐。,节日游戏,蔓越桔竞赛感恩节宴会后,有些家庭还常常做些传统游戏。第一次感恩节,人们进行了跳舞、比赛等许多娱乐活动,其中有些一直流传至今。有种游戏叫蔓越桔竞赛,是把一个装有蔓越桔的大碗放在地上,4-10名竞赛者围坐在周围,每人发给针线一份。 比赛一开始,他们先穿针线,然后把蔓越桔一个个串起来,3分钟一到;谁串得最长,谁就得奖。至于串得最慢的人,大家还开玩笑地发给他一个最差奖。 玉米游戏还有一种玉米游戏也很古老。据说这是为了纪念当年在粮食匮乏的情况下发给每个移民五个玉米而流传下来的。游戏时。人们把五个玉米藏在屋里,由大家分头去找,找到玉米的五

The parade began on a very small scale, its popularity grew with each passing year, and after almost 24 years of

The Parade is famously known for its policy of going on under any circumstance or condition; be it rain or shine. The most bittersweet year of the Parade was 1963, which was held

But, as they say The show must go on, the parade was held so as not to disappoint millions of children and viewers. Thanksgiving parades also occur in other cities like Plymouth, Houston, Philadelphia and De

24、troit (where it is the only major parade of the year). Important Features of Thanksgiving Parade Important features of the parade are moving stands with specific themes, scenes from Broadway plays, large balloons of cartoon characters and TV personalities, and high school marching bands.
