Strengthened international coope
2、ration on economy and trade leads to a more detailed separation of jobs, which further stimulates the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of multinational corporations. Under this new scenario, how to attract and use the foreign capital effectively to boost domestic economy is an important issue most de
3、veloping countries are putting more efforts on. During the past half a century, the ASIAN countries have made great achievements, which can be greatly attributed to the big inflow of foreign capital. However, a blind use of foreign capital leads to the instability of national economy, and the financ
4、ial crisis witnessed in Thailand and Brunei in 1997 is a painful illustration of the aftermath. Based on those experience and lessons learned by ASIAN and other developing countries, this dissertation gives an analysis on some of the issues in Laoss introduction of foreign capital. The major issues
5、covered here include the low efficiency and under-developed introduction of the foreign capital, the lack of experience of the government, the bad quality of the investment, the over-dependency on a narrow range of investors, the unbalanced portfolio of investment and the unsound legal environment.
6、The dissertation further makes discussions and suggestions for Laos future strategy in attracting and using foreign capital under the ASIAN 10+1 economical environment and trend: first of all, Laos, should develop a scientific strategy on attracting foreign investment; second, manage foreign compani
7、es, demonstrating a better business environment to attract more companies; third, further develop laws and regulations; forth, increase the cooperation with nearby countries; fifth, continue with an open policy and more preferential offerings.
