2、evelopment of the global industry, oil and gas resources on the land cant meet the needs of industry. So, we have to exploit natural resources from the land to the ocean. It is estimated that there are about 135 billion tons oil reserves under the sea , which is about 30 percent of total world reser
3、ves. 2. Where are the marine oil and gas resources in the world mainly distributed ? Do you know? Continental shelf , why ?because This area is a continental shelf. The distance between it and land is about 200 kilometers. 3.This picture shows seven major production areas of offshore oil resources.(

7、platform may be fixed to the ocean floor, may consist of an artificial island, or may float. This picture shows all kinds of platform all around the world. 7. Next, I will focus on the jacket platform, which is one of the fixed platform.Jacket platform is usually applied to the shallow water environ
8、ment.A fixed platform consists of a welded tubular steel jacket, deck, and surface facility. The jacket and deck make up the foundation for the surface facilities. The bottom of jacket is pile. Piles driven into the seafloor secure the jacket. Once the jacket is secured and the deck is installed, ad
9、ditional modules are added for drilling, production, and crew operations. As they are attached to the sea floor, there is limited exposure to movement due to wind and water forces. However, these platforms cannot be used in extremely deep water. Fixed platforms are economically feasible for installa
10、tion in water depths up to about 520 m (1,710 ft).8.After the onshore fabrication of the jacket is completed, it is loaded onto a very large barge that will transport the jacket to its location.Usually, there are two kinds of modes of transportation. We can see clearly differences between dry tow an
11、d wet tow from two pictures. The left picture is dry tow , the right one is wet tow. Dry tow- It is loaded onto a very large barge that will transport the jacket to its location. Wet tow the platform is directly placed into sea surface and towed by a vessel to its location.Thats all . thank you .The
12、 transportation and installation of the platform typically include long ocean-crossing dry tow on a barge or a heavy lift vessel, float-off near shore in shallow water, a shorter horizontal wet tow to the platform offshore site, and on-site upending. The jacket may be hundreds meters high and weight thousands tonnes.The height of the jacket is defined by the water depth plus about 15 meters above the sea level.
