Ive had an interview with the Australian counselor of education Mr.Watt, and got informed that there are nearly 20,000 Chinese

2、students in Australia.Since Australia is a multicultural and unique society, it is probably hard for Chinese students to fit in with it. As a native Australian, do you have any suggestions or recommendations for our youth? Ms. Jocelyn Chey: Well, its a pity that my friend is not here. She is teachin

Recently she had a class sponsored by Shanghai Yangpu district. The education commission set a group of

So these teachers spent two months taking classes with my friend and they learnt a lot. They got back with some new teaching methods. But they also learned a lot about Au

They have an office called Home Stay Program taking charge of it. To begin with, they came to class and told my friend they were not very happy; they didnt li

But one of the things, which they were not prepared for was that Sydney is full of all different kinds of families. Because you know, Australia attracts migran

So if you go overseas, you should expect things to be different. I hope the Chinese students just be patient and look on

9、 the bright side and find some things to enjoy. Li: Yes, but to open up ones mind, one needs to prepare. How do you recommend them to do before going abroad? Ms. Chey: I think, for any student when they are going overseas, they worry a little bit about whether they will be lonely, whether they will be

So if the student has always lived at home with the family and has no experience of being independent, it will be hard for him to get used to being overseas.I think,my impression is that some families have spoilt their 更多免费资料下载请进:http:/ 中

12、overseas, people could start by trying some independent traveling in China,in the country they know the language. So if you cant travel alone in your own country, it will be obvious more difficult to travel in another country. We mentioned safety, yeah? Really Australia is quite a safe place. The rea

Unfortunately, we do have crime, and crime in Australia is mostly related with drugs. There

They need money to buy drugs, so they may break into houses, etc. Usually, when you go to a city, the first thing is to find out from

15、the local people which are the safe places to go and which places are not safe to go. And then just keep away from those places. These are practical things and I hope that people who read your English Salon will think about it before going overseas to study. Li: As a famous sinologist and a diplomat

What do you think is the cultural difference that makes foreign language learning a difficult thing? How to overcome it? Ms. Chey: Well, the obvious thing in learning every

Because when a little baby learns to walk, he frequently falls over. But they are not afraid of falling over and thats why they

18、can learn to walk. Anyone who just sits where they are and fears of falling over will never make any progress. If you are learning a foreign language, you got to overcome this fear and say something even if it is the wrong thing. My view is that Chinese students are very good at understanding on wha

So for speaking, generally we think it is the weakness of a foreign language learner. Li: As a language learner, yourself, do you have any good lessons to share

So it was very difficult for me to speak. Then after I graduated from university I decided this is very bad, for I was going to work

21、 in Asia and I must learn to speak Chinese. So I found a very good teacher. By the time I was in Hong Kong, it was not possible to study standard Chinese there. Fortunately, my teacher came from Beijing, so I learned good standard Chinese accent, not Cantonese accent. And my teachers wife and two ch

I think the key to learning to speak a foreign language is that people dont criticize you if you say the wrong thing. While for me, I practiced a lot with children and I didnt worry about whether I made a mistake

24、. So after six months, I could speak Chinese pretty well. My advice is that if you want to speak English well, practice with your friends as much as possible. Li: You hit the point. Thank you very much.
