The title of my thesis is On Different Groups Subtitles Translation of the First Quarter of the “Vampire Diaries“ from the Perspective of Skopos Theory. Now, I will introduce the significance of the study and the main content of my thesis. A
2、nd hope teachers give me some suggestions.To begin with, Id like to introduce the need of the study and why I choose this title. With the development of technology of mass media, the American TV series won its large market in China. Subtitle translation, as a special form of translation, is a kind o
3、f translation behavior which has its purpose. To meet the different needs of people of American TV series, subtitle translation should get the purpose that the Chinese audience could communicate with the original movie effectively. Because English has not yet popularized in China, people who watch A
4、merican play are mainly in college students, college teachers and company white-collar. While to those audience who can not understand English, subtitle translation of American TV series should be more straightaway. There already exist many scholars study results in subtitle translation field, but m
5、ost of them tend to the film title translation or simple subtitle translation. However, the wide spread of internet has enhanced the fast development of the transmission of online movies, along with which the subtitles translation of these movies also becomes prosperous. Therefore my thesis makes a
6、comparison between subtitles translated by on-line groups and official institutions. Through the comparison, the features of subtitle translation of internet movies can be concluded. And with the use of the skopos theory, through the introduction to characteristics of subtitles: instantaneity in,stn
7、tni:iti, popularity and subtitles space restrictions, as well as the listing of specific translations of dialogue in Vampire Diaries, I points out that American TV series subtitle translators should follow the skopos rule in skopos theory, and take the translation strategies such as using spoken lan
8、guage, buzzwords and simple strategy. Three differences was got from my thesis: firstly, the online translation groups work is more acceptable to younger audiences. Their work is more fashionable than the official work. It contains Chinese unique characteristics. And it also contains lots of the tra
9、nslators own style. Secondly, online translations always add some extra information, such as explained knowledge, kindly reminder, character comments and cultural background information. Thirdly, the official work emphasizes the mass media broadcasting effect.Next, I want to talk about thesis struct
10、ure. The thesis consists of five chapters: chapter one introduces significance of the study and the structure of the whole text. The second chapter is the literature review, and introduces the theoretical basis of the whole textthe skopos theory. Chapter three mainly discusses the characteristics an
11、d physical limitations of film subtitles translation. Chapter four focuses on relevant strategies of subtitle translation with persuasive examples in Vampire Diaries. Chapter five is the conclusion which summarizes the whole thesis and provides limitations of this study and further suggestions about
12、 the field of film subtitle translation.Last but not the least, I will list the limitations of my thesis. Though giving a detailed analysis of subtitle translation, this thesis is still far from satisfactory in the following aspects. First, it only focuses on the E-C subtitle translation. With the r
13、apid development of Chinas audiovisual industry, the C-E subtitle translation will also be flourishing, and studies in that field will also be of great value and importance. Next, the examples cited in this thesis are chosen by myself, which may not be comprehensive. And the analysis of the collecte
14、d subtitles are based on the my own observation and understanding which might be incomplete and subjective. Thirdly, American TV series are only one type of subtitled audiovisual products, as for lots of other types such as documentary, TV programs may need different strategies of subtitle translation. Therefore, more researches concerning this field, especially studies on subtitle translation principles and strategies, would be welcome. Thats all, thank you.
