1、CORRELATION BETWEEN AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCES ENGLISH PROFILING SYSTEM (ADFELPS) AND INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGAUGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS),For the Masters program in Australia, IELTS is used as the measure where a candidate needs a minimum overall of 6.5 with 6.0 across all 4 skills. In Malaysia, AD
2、FELPS is used as the screening test where candidates need to score a minimum of 7 across all 4 skills before they are allowed to sit for the IELTS. The objective of this is to reduce costs, as sitting for IELTS involves a substantial amount of money.,AIM,The aim of this research is to establish whet
3、her ADFELPS 7 across the board is the optimum score to ensure that a Malaysian candidate is able to score a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 across all 4 skills.,SAMPLE SIZE,125 samples accumulated from 2003 to 2006 were used for this study. The samples covered IELTS scores from 4 to 9 an
4、d ADFELPS scores from 5 to 9. These samples were considered appropriate as this was the area of interest to the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). A larger sample would have provided a better analysis but this was not possible due to the limited candidates sitting for both the ADFELPS and IELTS tests.,AD

We must remember that the objective of the ADFELPS as a screening test is to identify as many candidates as possible who will meet th
7、e IELTS requirement to qualify as a student for the Masters program.,FINDINGS,Some leeway should be given to Malaysian candidates with a level lower (ADFELPS 6) in particular in listening and writing skills. The final decision here should be left to the discretion of the SO Languages.,CONCLUSION,Wit
8、hin the constraints of the research, MAF is glad to note that an ADFELPS 7 across the board does ensure success in obtaining an IELTS OVERALL score of 6.5 with a minimum 6 across all 4 skills.
