T houghthe black slaves, w ho w ere regarded as the chattel of their masters, w ere not entitled to the right of family,they struggled to establish their fam ily life despite various setbacks resul
8、ted from their bondage. The slavesadapted their w ay of family life to the peculiar institution and developed their unique values of family.
