12017 四川剑阁县高考英语阅读理解一轮编练(1)2016 高考训练题。阅读理解。阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出最佳选项。Even before there were people, there were cases of air pollution. There were dust storms. Volcanoes erupted, sending ash and poisonous gases into the atmosphere. When people appeared on the scene and began their conquest of nature, they also began to pollute the air. They cleared land, which made possible even larger dust storms. They built cities, and the soot(煤烟) from their hearths filled the air. The Roman author Seneca wrote in AD 61 of the “stink, soot and heavy air” of the imperial city. In 1257, the Queen of England was forced to move away from the city of Nottingham because the heavy smoke was unbearable. The industrial revolution brought even worse air pollution. Coal was burned to power factories and to heat homes. Soot, smoke, and sulfur dioxide(二氧化硫) fill the air.The good old days? Not in the factory towns. But there were large rural areas unaffected by air pollution. With increasing population, the entire world is becoming more urban. It is the huge cities that are most affected by air pollution. But rural areas are not unaffected. In the neighborhoods around smoky factories, there is evidence of increased rates of spontaneous abortion(自然流产) and of poor wool quality in sheep, decreased egg production and a high death rate in chickens.Traffic police in Tokyo have to wear gas masks and take “oxygen breaks”—breathing occasionally from tanks of oxygen. Smog in Athens at times has forced factory closings and traffic restrictions. Acid rain in Canada is caused by air pollution in the United States, contributing to strained relationships between the two countries. Sydney, Rome, Tehran, Ankara, Mexico City, and most other major cities in the world have had frightening experiences of air pollution. One of the two major types of smog—consisting of smoke, fog, sulfur dioxide, sulfuring acid (H2SO4), ash and soot—is called London smog. Indeed, the word smog is thought to have originated in England in 1905 as a contraction of the words “smoke” and “fog”.Probably the worst case of smog in history started in London on Thursday, 4 December, 1952. A large cold air mass moved into the valley of the Thames River. A temperature 2inversion placed a blanket of warm air over the cold air. With nightfall, a dense fog and below-freezing temperatures caused the people of London to put coal into their small stoves. Millions of these fires burned throughout the night, pouring sulfur dioxide and smoke into the air. The next day, Friday, the people continued to burn coal when the temperature remained below freezing. The factories added their smoke and chemical fumes to the atmosphere.Saturday was a day of darkness. For twenty miles around London, no light came through the smog. The air was cold and still. And the coal fires continued to burn throughout the weekend. On Monday, 8 December, more than one hundred people died of heart attacks while trying desperately to breathe. By the time a breeze cleared the air on Tuesday, 9 December, more than 4,000 deaths had been caused by the smog.Soot and ash can be removed by electrostatic precipitators(静电吸尘器). Unfortunately, they use large amounts of electricity, and the electrical energy, which is hardly affordable for most of us, has to come from somewhere. Fly ash removed from the air has to be put on the land or water, although it could be used in some way.The elimination(去除) of sulfur dioxide is more difficult. Low-sulfur coal is rare and expensive. Although sulfur can be washed from finely pulverized(粉末化) coal, the process is expensive. There are also processes for changing dirty coal into clean liquid and gaseous fuels. These processes may hold promise for the future, but they are too expensive to compete economically with other fuels at present. They also waste a part of the coal’s energy.1. What is the passage mainly talking about?A. The type and form of pollution . B. The cause and effect of pollution.C. The situation and elimination of pollution. D. One day, science says a glass of red wine a day will help us livelonger. The next day, maybe not. It seems journalists are pretty interested in wine research and the same might be said for coffee. Now there's been a lot of research into whether coffee's good for our health “the results have really been mixed“,admits Neal Freedman who led the coffee study and published his findings in a medical journal recently. “There's been some evidence that coffee might increase the risk of certain diseases and there's also been maybe more recent evidence that coffee may protect against other diseases as well“.4Freedman and his colleagues undertook the biggest study yet to look at the relationship between coffee and health. They analyzed data collected from more than 400,000 Americans ages 50 to 70 participating in the study. “We found that the coffee drinkers had a modestly lower risk of death than the non-drinkers, he said. Here's what he means by “modestly“: those who drank at least two or three cups a day were about 10 percent or 15 percent less likely to die for any reason during the 13 years of the study when the researchers looked at specific causes of death, coffee drinking appeared to cut the risk of dying from heart disease, lung disease injuries, accidents and infections. Now, Freedman stressed that the study doesn't prove coffee can make people live longer.A study like this can never prove a cause-and-effect relationship. All it can really do is to point researchers in the right direction for further investigation. And even if it turns out that coffee is really good for you, scientists have no idea why.【文章大意】本文是一篇科学调查报告。文章通过科学调查研究了喝咖啡与疾病的关系。63. However, there are sites for those into social networking and into reading. Sound crazy?, It's really not.If you've ever wanted a site where you can receive book recommendations, follow your favorite authors, and keep up with what your friends are reading, then look no further than Goodreads. com.Goodreads provides useful services for those in the reading world. It is a site where you can win books by going to giveaways(赠书) and simply entering your information. Some giveaways are even signed by the author. And the books aren't boring, old or torn copies —— many of them are ARC's (Advanced Readers Copies),for which you can write a short 6review on the site. Anyone can post reviews of their favorite books or series so that others may feel inclined to read them as well.Another function of the site is offering book clubs and interest groups. You can have interactive discussions with groups of people reading the same things, sort of like a blog. You can also make friends with people and post statuses similar to Facebook. Your friends can send you book recommendations and you can add them to your shelf if you choose.Shelves are by far one of the best features on the site. This piece of advice provides the foundation for modern thinking on career satisfaction. But this can be a problem.I've spent the past several years researching and writing about the different strategies we use to seek happiness in our work. It became clear early in the process that the suggestion to ” follow your passion“ was flawed, for it lacks scientific evidence. However, it doesn't mean you should abandon the goal of feeling passionate about your work. The reality 8emphasizes that things are quite complicated.Passion is earned. Different people are looking for different things in their work, but generally, people with satisfying careers enjoy some combination of the following features: autonomy, respect, competence, creativity, and a sense of impact. In other words,if you want to feel passionate about your livelihood, don't seek the perfect job,but seek to get more of these features in the job you already have.Passion is elusive (难捉摸的).Many people develop the rare and valuable skills leading to passion , but still end up unhappy in their work. The problem is that the features leading you to love your work are more likely to be useful to you than your organization. As you become increasingly ‘‘valuable”,for example, your boss might push you toward traditional promotions that come with more pay and more responsibility, as this is what is most useful to your company. However, you might find more passion by applying your value to gain autonomy in your schedule or project selection.Passion is dangerous. I've watched too many of my peers fall into anxiety and chronic job-hoppirig due to the ‘‘follow your passion” advice. The issue is expectations. If you believe we all have a pre-existing passion, and that matching it to a job will lead to instant workplace happiness, reality will always pale in comparison.Work is hard. Not every day is fun. If you're seeking a dream job, you'll end up frustrated, again and again. Don't set out to discover passion. Instead, set out to develop it. This path might be longer and more complicated than what most cheerful career guides might advocate, but it's a path much more likely to lead you somewhere worth going.67. People satisfied with their careers are _______.A. autonomous and passionate B. creative and competentC. respectable and sensitive D. creative and passionate68. What is the author's advice on achieving career satisfaction?9A. Developing passion for what one is doing.B. Matching the pre-existing passion to one's work.C. Figuring out early what one will do in the future.D. Discovering skills that lead to interesting careers.69. The underlined sentence in Para. 5 probably means that _______.A. it is not easy to match our passion with our jobsB. we shouldn't think everyone has a pre-existing passionC. high expectations of passion in jobs bring disappointmentD. workplace happiness does not require a pre-existing passion70. What's the author's attitude towards the advice of “following your passion”?A. Ambiguous. B. Supportive. C. Cautious. D. Disapproving.【参考答案】1. 67-70 BACD 12017 四川剑阁县高考英语阅读理解一轮编练(2)【2016 模拟题】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出最佳选项。 If you have a bad habit of losing things, a new device that can be connected to any item that you might lose may be the way to solve your problem. The Tile, a small square linked up to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth, lets you see how close you are to the missing item, within a 50-to 150-foot range . If the item goes out of your phone’s 150-foot range, it can still be detected (发现) on other smartphones with the same app. When you log into the app on your phone, it shows you, with green bars that increase or decrease, how far away you are from the Tile. You can also program it to make a sound when you get close to the Tile. And you can link up your phone with up to ten Tiles. And if your lost item — a dog, for example, or a stolen bike — goes out of your own phone’s 150-foot Bluetooth range, you can set it as a “lost item”. If any of the phones with the Tile app comes within the range of your lost item, a message will be sent to your own phone, reminding you of its position. The Tile app also has the function to remember where it last saw your Tile, so that you can easily find where you left it.Since the Tiles use Bluetooth rather than GPS, they never run out of battery or need to be charged, and they last for one year before needing to be replaced. The app, which will come into the market this winter, works with iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Mini, iPad 3rd and 4th generation, and iPod 5th generation. 1. The Tile app can help you .A. find your missing items B. use your phone more wiselyC. save your phone’s battery power D. connect something to your phone2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. The Tile needs to be charged after a year of use. B. One smartphone can only be linked up to one Tile.C. The Tile cannot work when linked up to a phone without Bluetooth. D. A missing item can’t be found if it goes out of the needed range.3. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?A. What the Tile app is. B. How the Tile app works.C. The advantages of the Tile app. D. Why the Tile app was invented.24. Where does this passage probably come from?A. A science fiction novel. B. An advertisement.C. A personal diary. D. The medication is on track to become just the third oral drug available to M.S. patients, and potentially the safest and most effective, experts said. The second oral drug, called Aubagio, was approved just last week. The new trials, published online in The New England Journal of Medicine, found that the drug BG-12, developed by Biogen Idec, reduced relapsing M.S rates(旧病复发率)in patients by about 50 percent. The drug also obviously reduced the frequency of new brain damage , and slowed the progression of disease compared with a placebo(安慰剂). In the two clinical trials, called Define and Confirm, patients were divided into two groups at random, taking 240 milligrams of BG-12 either twice or three times a day. Patients in a third group took a placebo. The combined results showed that the drug reduced the relapse rate by about 50 percent. Taking BG-12 twice a day reduced the number of newly enlarging brain damages by 71 percent to 99 percent. The Define trial found a statistically significant 38 percent reduction in the progression to disability. The most frequent side effects were a temporary flushing(脸红)and warm feeling and other symptoms including nausea, diarrhea, cramping and vomiting. Though both types of side effects were common, they tended to reduce after the first few weeks of use and were tolerated by most patients. However, Interferons, the drugs most commonly used in relapsing M.S., reduce relapses by about 30 percent, and have not been shown to slow the progression of the disease and disability. The newly approved Aubagio also reduces relapses by about 30 percent, and it has the advantage of being an oral drug. 3BG-12 is an anti-inflammatory that works by protecting nerves against injury. “The safety track record is well known and appears to be very strong,” said Dr. Robert Fox, lead author of one of the new studies and medical director of the Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis Treatment.“It’s a bright day for M.S. patients, but there is a gray cloud in that we still don’t have anything for those with progressive M.S.,” he added.63. Which of the following is NOT the function of BG-12? A. It can slow the progression to disability significantly. B. It can reduce relapses rates in patients with relapsing M.S. C. It can decrease the number of brain damages caused by M.S. D. It can make patients excited and ensure patients have a warm feeling. 64. What can you infer from the underlined sentence in the last paragraph? A. BG-12 can relieve the pain from the patients suffering from M.S. B. There is hope but still a long way to find a cure for progressive M.S.C. Scientists can not invent medication for patients with progressive M.S.D. Patients in the early stages of M.S will still suffer a lot in the future.65. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Advantages of BG-12 B. Good news for the patientsC. Comparisons between three drugs D. A new oral medication for the early M.S. 4【考点定位】考查句子理解。65.【答案】D【解析】本文是对新发明的一种治疗多发性硬化的口服药物的介绍。【考点定位】考查文章主旨。阅读下列短文,从每小题后所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。Joanne Rowling, born on 31 July 1965, is an English fiction writer who writes under the pen name J. K. Rowling. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series, which has gained international attention, won multiple awards, and sold over 375 million copies worldwide.JK Rowling’s new novel arrives with the high drama and state secrecy of a royal birth. Its due date is announced in February, and in April the disclosure of its title, The Casual Vacancy, makes international news. The release of the cover image in July commands headlines again, and Fleet Street(英国媒体) commissions (委托) a “design guru” to analyze its mysterious artistic beauty, in search of clues as to what might lie within. Waterstones(英国连锁书店) predicts the novel will be “the bestselling fiction title this year”. Literary critics begin to publish preliminary (初步的) reviews, revealing what they think they will think about a book they have not yet even read. I am required to sign more legal documents than would typically be involved in buying a house before I am allowed to read The Casual Vacancy, under tight security in the London offices of Little, Brown. Even the publishers have been forbidden to read it, and they give me the manuscript carefully, religiously, as though handling a priceless Ming vase. Afterwards, I am instructed never to disclose the address of Rowling’s Edinburgh office where the interview will take place. In the 15 years since she published her first Harry Potter, Rowling has become both universally known and almost unrecognizable. The untidy redhair who used to write in the cafes of Leith has slowly transformed into a shiny fashionable lady, one who is beyond recognition behind wealth and control. Once a penniless single mother, she became the first person on earth to make $1billion by writing books, but her rare public appearances 5suggested a faint ice maiden quality. Rowling is completely relaxed about this arrangement. Warm and energetic, quick to laugh, she chatters so freely that her publicist gets nervous and tells her to lower her voice. “Am I speaking too loud?” She doesn’t look a bit concerned. “Well, I can’t get passionate and whisper!” When I tell her I loved the book, her arms shoot up in celebration. “Oh my God! I’m so happy! That’s so amazing to hear. Thank you so much! You’ve made me incredibly happy. Oh my God!” Anyone listening would take her for a debut author, meeting her first ever fan. In a way, that’s what she is. Rowling has written seven Harry Potter books, and sold more than 450m copies, but her first novel for adults is unlike them in every respect.“Obviously I need to be in some form of vehicle to have a decent idea,” she laughs. Having dreamed up Potter on a train, “This time I was on a plane. And I thought: local election! And I just knew. I had that totally physical response you get to an idea that you know will work. It’s a rush of adrenaline (肾上腺素), it’s chemical. I had it with Harry Potter and I had it with this. So that’s how I know.”66. The “design guru” in Paragraph 2 is probably ________.A. a publisher B. a reader C. a writer D. an expert67. Why was the author required to sign so many legal documents before reading the book?A. Because it’s a commercial secret before the book is published.B. Because publishers are afraid the author is a commercial spy.C. Because the author is so dishonest that publishers can’t trust him.D. Because the author is involved in buying a house.68. From the passage, we can learn the following facts about Rowling EXCEPT that________A. she used to write stories in the cafes.B. she often makes public appearance after she is famous.C. she was very poor before she became well-known.D. she has become a wealthy lady with good quality.69. According to the interview with Rowling, we can infer that she is ________.A. aggressive and energetic B. quiet and easygoing C. enthusiastic and lovely D. modest and shy70. The author writes the passage mainly to ________.6A. introduce JK Rowling and her new bookB.describe great changes in JK RowlingC. advocate readers to buy Harry PotterD. tell readers the contents of the new book【文章大意】本文是一篇人物介绍,文章主要介绍了《哈利波特》的作者 JK 罗琳和她的新书。67.【答案】A 【解析】从后面的状语“under tight security in the London offices of Little, Brown”可以看出是为了保密。【考点定位】考查推理判断能力。68.【答案】B【解析】从第四段最后一句里的“but her rare public appearances suggested a faint ice maiden quality”可判断出她很少公开露面。【考点定位】考查推理判断能力。69.【答案】C【解析】从第五段中“Warm and energetic, quick to laugh”几个词可以看出她的性格很开朗,充满热情。【考点定位】考查推理判断能力。70.【答案】A【解析】文章主要介绍了 JK 罗琳和她的新书【考点定位】考查文章主旨。阅读7Two friends have an argument that breaks up their friendship forever, even though neither one can remember how the whole thing got started. Such sad events happen over and over in high schools across the country. In fact, according to an official report on youth violence, “In our country today, the greatest threat to the lives of children and adolescents is not disease or starvation or abandonment, but the terrible reality of violence”. Given that this is the case, why aren’t students taught to manage conflict the way they are taught to solve math problems, drive cars, or stay physically fit? First of all, students need to realize that conflict is unavoidable. A report on violence among middle school and high school students indicates that most violent incidents between students begin with a relatively minor insult (侮辱) . For example, a fight could start over the fact that one student eats a peanut butter sandwich each lunchtime. Laughter over the sandwich can lead to insults, which in turn can lead to violence. The problem isn’t in the sandwich, but in the way students deal with the conflict. Once students recognize that conflict is unavoidable, they can practice the golden rule of conflict resolution (解决) : stay calm. Once the student feels calmer, he or she should choose words that will calm the other person down as well. Rude words, name- calling, and accusations only add fuel to the emotional fire. On the other hand, soft words spoken at a normal sound level can put out the fire before it explodes out of control. After both sides have calmed down, they can use another key strategy (策略) for conflict resolution: listening. Listening allows the two sides to understand each other. One person should describe his or her side, and the other person should listen without interrupting. Afterward, the listener can ask non- threatening questions to clarify the speaker’s position. Then the two people should change roles. Finally, students need to consider what they are hearing. This doesn’t mean trying to figure out what’s wrong with the other person. It means understanding what the real issue is and what both sides are trying to accomplish. For example, a shouting match over a peanut butter sandwich might happen because one person thinks the other person is unwilling to try new things. Students need to ask themselves questions such as these: How did this start? 8What do I really want? What am I afraid of? As the issue becomes clearer, the conflict often simply becomes smaller. Even if it doesn’t, careful thought helps both sides figure out a mutual solution. There will always be conflict in schools, but that doesn’t mean there needs to be violence. After students in Atlanta started a conflict resolution program, according to Educators for Social Responsibility, “64 percent of the teachers reported less physical violence in the classroom; 75 percent of the teachers reported an increase in student cooperation; and 92 percent of the students felt better about themselves”. Learning to resolve conflicts can help students deal with friends, teachers, parents, bosses, and coworkers. In that way, conflict resolution is a basic life skill that should be taught in schools across the country. 1. This article is mainly about . A. the lives of school children B. the cause of arguments in schoolsC. how to analyze youth violence D. how to deal with school conflicts2. From Paragraph 2 we can learn that . A. violence is more likely to occur at lunchtime B. a small conflict can lead to violenceC. students tend to lose their temper easilyD. the eating habit of a student is often the cause of a fight3. Why do students need to ask themselves the questions stated in Paragraph 5? A. To find out who is to blame. B. To get ready to try new things. C. To make clear what the real issue is. 9D. To figure out how to stop the shouting match. 4. After the conflict resolution program was started in Atlanta, it was found that . A. there was decrease in classroom violenceB. there was less student cooperation in the classroomC. more teachers felt better about themselves in schoolsD. the teacher- student relationship greatly improved5. The writer’s purpose for writing this article is to .
