From her childhood, she loved to study

2、 and hoped to become a scientist.,Be Enthusiastic About Study,But before Marie turned 11, her eldest sister and mother had pased away. Despite these losses, Marie graduated from high school at 15 with the highest honors. Even worse, women were not permitted to study at the University of the local. B

3、ut Marie didnt give up the pursuit of knowledge.,So Maria and her older sister Bronya made a pact. Maria would work as a governess to help pay for her medical studies in Paris. As soon as Bronya began to earn money, she would help cover the costs of Marias university training.,A Pact Between Sisters

4、,Shortly before she turned 24, Maria saved up just enough money for university studies in Paris. She had looked forward to this moment for a long time.,“I am going to put life into scientific dream, then the dream into reality.” - Marie Curies,Through hard work she completed masters degrees in physi

5、cs and math in only three years. Living on her own for the first time, she focused so hard on her studies that she sometimes forgot to eat.,Maries superior work in physics won her a scholarship. And a group of industrialists, paid her to investigate the magnetic properties of different steels. To ca

6、rry out the work she needed a lab.,Pierre Curie had a lab, so Marie was introduced to him .,As the relationship between Pierre and Marie deepened, he convinced her that she should pursue science in Paris, not return to Poland for good.,Afer they get married, Marie completed her research on the magne

7、tic properties of steels in two years. She submitted her final results shortly before giving birth to their first daughter. Then Marie began looking for a research topic that would earn her a doctorate in science. No woman in the world had yet completed this degree at that time.,Two mysterious disco

8、veries led Marie to her lifes work. One is rays and the other is mineral which can give off rays. Marie decided to investigate the rays. There was so little work on them for her to read about that she could begin experiments at once.,Stick To Scientific Research And Never Give Up,First Marie needed

9、a lab. She had to settle for a storeroom. The storeroom was crowded and damp, but somehow she overcame its problems. She started off by studying a variety of chemical compounds.,After long labor they succeeded in finding two new elements which can give off rays-polonium and radium. They published a

10、paper revealing their first discovery.,But other scientists did not trust the announcement, for the Curies did not have enough polonium and radium to see and weigh. The Curies would have to separate the two elements from the other substances they were mixed with. And Curies continued their work in a

11、n abandoned shed nearby.,I dont feel sorry for my life. To make me feel sad is a day is too short, and the paasage of time is so fast.”- Marie Curies,The Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to Pierre and Marie Curie in 1903. They were awarded half the prize for their research on the radiation phenom

12、ena discovered by Becquerel.,After 8 years, Marie became the first person to win a second Nobel Prize. She accepted the 1911 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium.,To be indifferent to fame and fortune,“ Honor is like toys, can play only,cannot keep it forever, otherwise
