9、tchen, the icebox and dishes and plates are clean enough.2Questions for the RatingsIn the deck and engine department轮机及甲板部分普通船员部分对于船东来说，普通船员在船上是干活的，因此，他们希望船员给他们留下的印象是具有很强的服从意识和娴熟的技术。同时，普通船员的外表和言行举止看上去没有任何酗酒、迷惑、以及暴力倾向也特别重要。此外，尽管普通船员并不是对外人员，但是，给人一个干净利落的形象也特别重要。所以，即使是普通船员，在面试时适当包装一下自己还是应该的；也许就因为你看上去干净利
10、落而比其他候选人有竞争力。通常而言，在面试普通船员（含甲板和轮机）时，船东不会提出很多专业性很强的英语问题。但是，水手长（BOSUN）和 Oiler No.1 的英语水平还是要求的，因为在船东看来，BOSUN 和 Oiler No1 是甲板部分及轮机部分仅次于干部船员的 PETTY OFFICERS， 他们要经常和船长、大副、老轨、以及大管轮沟通。对于 AB、OS 和 COOK 以及 MASS BOY的提问，通常涉及到他们的资历、家庭情况。总的来说，对于普通船员来说，英语的好坏并没有太大的关系，因为在整套班子外派的情况下，干部船员都是本国人，只要干部船员能讲英语也就够了。尽管如此，若你能和船东
11、用英语进行非常简单的沟通，熟悉船上一些工具的英语名称及日常用的英语还是能为你的面试成功提供很大的帮助的。但是，对那些要上的船是那种类似于“联合国”的班子（即船员来自几个不同的国家，必须用英语来作为工作语言）的普通船员来说，船东对普通船员英语也是有很高要求的，欧洲和美洲船东对英语的要求尤其较高，因为你连最简单的工作用英语都不会的话，很容易出大问题。其实，从实践看，普通船员英文水平偏低也是制约中国船员外派的最主要的因素之一。因此，我们希望，广大普通船员，特别是年轻的普通船员，同样要努力提高自己的英语水平。根据笔者的经验，船东提问普通船员的问题一般都不会非常专业。通常，他们在基本了解了你的工作经历和
12、个人的一些情况后就不会再问更多的问题了。偶尔也有一些船东，特别是那些香港、台湾、新加坡等讲汉语的船东，他们会问一些关于你的工作常识的一些问题。因为本书主要是关于船员英语考核方面的问题，所以就无法全部赘述了。下面，就不同的职位简单列举几个问题，供参考。另外，书后附上船员生活和工作中常用的英语词汇和短句，并不是要求大家把所有的词汇都背下来（若能背下来更好） ，只是希望大家在平时工作中可以参考。普通船员常见问题Bosun（水手长）水手长是甲板上仅次于驾驶员的 PETTY OFFICER， 船东往往对水手长的要求较高，不但希望水手长有丰富的工作经验，还要求水手长的英文水平要高于其他普通水手。此外，水手
13、长还应该具备较好的沟通能力，即和上上下下的船员的沟通能力。还要求水手长有一定的领导和组织能力，因为水手长要组织并领导甲板上的其他水手完成大副、船长、和其他干部船员布置的任务。实践表明，光会干活而不会领导他人的水手长并不是一个非常合格的水手长。1. Tell us your experience as a boatswains. 请说说你的水手长工作经历。3船东希望水手长具有很丰富的工作经验和管理经验，因为水手长要在具体的工作中带领其他水手干活，没有一定的经验和管理水平是很难胜任这个工作的。但是，水手长还应该有很好的服从意识，因为水手长毕竟是在干部船员的领导下工作。显得太世故并不是一件好事。2.
