7、 met his future wife, Emma Gifford in 1872. They married in 1874. Emma Gifford was a woman of high social status. She had a very interesting personality and was always remembered by visitors to the Hardy household. She died in 1912.,Hardy met Florence Dugdale in 1907. After Emmas death in 1912, Flor

8、ence and Hardy married and continued to live at Max Gate,Hardy became ill in December 1927 and died in January 1928, having dictated his final poem to his wife on his deathbed. His funeral was on 16 January at Westminster Abbey, and it proved a controversial occasion because Hardy and his family and

9、 friends had wished for his body to be interred at Stinsford in the same grave as his first wife, Emma. However, his executor, insisted that he be placed in the abbeys famous Poets Corner.
