9、GREE COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATIONThe graduate students for Environmental Science and Engineering major should finish the required course credits that must be at least a total of 15 credits, and the credits for degree courses should be more than 10. The completion of these courses is usually wi
10、thin 1 to 2 years, while the additional 2 to 3 years is used to complete the dissertation research and thesis oral defense. Moreover, every student is also required to commit several presentations/lectures that are closely relevant to his/her research project, which will be counted for one credit of

ADVISORY COMIMITEE AND SUPERVISORY The Ph.D. students should be directed by a qualified major supervisor (Ph.D. graduate faculty), as well as a commit
19、tee panel containing several qualified co-advisors/committee members. The initiated advisory committee consists of at least four members of the graduate faculty, including the major advisor, who acts as the chair. At least two of the committee members must come from the School of the Environment and
20、 Safety Engineering, with at least one of them being a full time position to serve as the graduate faculty at JU. The remaining two members may come from School of the Environment and Safety Engineering or from other colleges at JU (at least one with the full time position to serve as the Graduate F
21、aculty at JU). If a student declares a minor, one of the committee members must be invited from the declared minor department/college. In general, the committee panel should be established by end of the second semester in a students graduate career.VII. OTHER ISSUES AND REQUIREMENTS All graduate stu
22、dents are required to initiate their dissertation study project prior to end of the second semester. The medium-term examination for dissertation project is generally scheduled in the fourth semester. Other following schedules relevant to your graduate study could be found from the Overseas Educatio
23、n College (OEC) at JU. By end of the first year, students are required to have a research proposal and program of study accepted 6by his/her Graduate Advisory Committee. A list of completed courses taken in other accredited universities and those to be proposed for PhD grogram should also be prepare
24、d before the first committee meeting. A meeting of the advisory committee should be scheduled by the student to discuss his/her proposal and course work.Every graduate student is required to publish scientific papers in the relevant field prior to being eligible to apply a dissertation defense. The
25、published academic papers and research achievements should meet other universitys requirements . The dissertation must demonstrate a mastery of research innovation, ability to perform original and independent research, and skills in formulating conclusions that enlarge upon or modify accepted ideas.

DISSERTATION RESEARCH The level of the quality of doctoral thesis is a comprehensive measure of doctoral training quality received from JU and its relevant academic standards being established at JU. Dissertation research project can be a basic, applied basic, or an applied en
29、gineering project, which should mainly focus on one of the frontier disciplines or an important scientific/technological challenge that would significantly contribute to either academic or industrial advances with its new concepts/theories/methods, as well as its novel technologies. Students are gen
30、erally required to participate in solving a major theoretical 7or technological problem, and, as the best, will deeply involve in an important research grant that is currently undertaken by your supervisor. The thesis should indicate a matter of fact that the student has been well trained in the rel
31、evant disciplines and contribute significantly either in science or in industrial application.
